Happy Halloween!

Happy Haloween! Visitors today were Helen Mains, Donna and Terry James - they brought some food and had chili for lunch. Nic brought some things from Danna and some cheese for Carol for school. She helped Carol with the fence around the evergreen trees.

Kathy, Brendsa and Cliff stopped by to visit. We ennjoyed watching the K.C. Chiefs beat the Colts. It was a little hard on the nerves, but they played a good game. By the looks of the other scores, the KC & Colt game may have been the best game Sunday. Maybe the Chiefs have found their game.

Tonight Carol and I watched the movie Antwone Fisher Story It was pretty good.

Only 2 days until election day. Everybody get out to vote.

10-30-04 Message

Saturday was a nice day. Iowa, Iowa State and Nebraska all won their football games. None of them were on TV for us to watch, but the radio did a good job with the play by play. The wind really blew last night and is still blowing today. It blew down some sticks and branches plus it moved our TV antenna and broke part of it off. Our reception is not as good, plus we lose the picture once in awhile.

Next Saturday will be the showdown for the Big 12 North Leadership!

Carol is feeling better today. She got a hair cut this morning. Danna, Nic and their friend Kyli spent Saturday addressing wedding announcements. They got about 100 of them done. Nic brought ours down and they are very nice.

Danna & Kevin came down to visit. We watched the movie "Monsters, Inc" it was a cartoon but quite entertaining. They gave us some wedding details. The wedding is Sunday afternoon. They fly out of Omaha Saturday afternoon. It sounds like it is going to be very nice. They will be back here Thursday to decorate the lodge.

Time for bed.

It has been a good 24 hours. I have had a couple of close calls, but I have made it to 10:30. It was nice to set up and enjoy the day. Carol is feeling ill tonight with a sore throat and general tired feeling.

Visitors: Cousin Gordon and his wife Mike stopped on their way to the Farragut/Villisca regional volleyball game.

No baseball tonight and ER was a rerun, so I spent the evening reading the Beacon and Opinion Tribune. On to Friday - hope it is another good day.

Today was another good day. After I got up today I was sitting in from of the computer the rest of the day.

I did some walking after Carol got home from school and did my upper body exercises. The exercises were a little tough since I hadn't done them for some time. But I got them done.
Carol went to the doctor after school. She had blood drawn and a culture taken of her throat. She has a cold and is really worn out. She slept during the best TV show. She is wearing a mask so she doesn't expose me to her germs. But since she is caring for me she now gets to get a flue shot. She was happy about that.

It is about bedtime. Hope for another good day tomorrow so I can enjoy the football games.

Dad

As I write this I am feeling pretty god. To bad the Cardinals Can't find a way to win one game in the World Series. The American League pitching is too much.
The public health nurse was here today. Blood pressure 88/50, pulse -102, weight same as last week. That was good news. My surgery wound is finally healing. It has taken this long because of my poor circulation in my lower leg.

The rest of the day was spent in bed feeling very ill. I did get a little walking done. I managed a carnation instant breakfast before noon and about 6 o'clock it was just like you turned the switch to go. My stomach was settled keeping ice cream and graham crackers down. The thing different today was I didn't take any pills other than pain pills.
The bad thing about this is I will expect to feel good tomorrow and I may not. Well, Let's hope for the feel good.

The Cardinals looked bad to-night. I doubt if they can come back and win 4 in a row.

Visitors: Larry Giesman, my college roommate, visited this afternoon. We visited a couple of hours about crops, sports, school bond issues, Husker football, etc.

Kevin and Danna came down to visit and watched the World Series. They worked on their mailing list for the wedding while they were here. I got to feeling a little better. I have been able to keep some ice cream down.

Carol's FCCLA kids had their trick or treat for the food bank in Tabor tonight. All went well and they got lots of canned food.

We're on to Wednesday.

Another bad Monday. I just never felt well all day. Keeping warm was my main problem. The only place warm was bed. I had things I was going to do, but they will wait. At supper time I was sick so didn't eat.

I finally got up for Monday night football. Carol and I did our month end bills and watched the game.

Visitors: Kirk Shearer, our tax man, stopped to visit and see if we had everything set up.
Marvin Penning - brought out the World Hearld.

Close this awful day.

I should have taken a nap on Saturday, I was really tired by the time everyone got to bed. So today after breakfast I went back to bed until 11:30. Then it was time for the Chiefs on T.V. They had a good day (56-10)over the Falcons.

I forgot to write about Saturday. Andy, Ali and Zac arrived about 12:30 on Saturday. The kids were full of energy. Big Red took it on the chin again (45-24) to Kansas state. They may be getting worse as the season continues. Iowa State may have a chance.

Danna and Kevin went to the lodge to look it over for their reception. They arrived here about 9:30 to see Andy and the kids. It sounds like the wedding plans are moving forward. They are coming back Monday night for the football game.

Back to Sunday: Visitors - Nic came to see us and make mints for the wedding. Cliff and Brenda came to visit and Brends helped with the mints.

Paster Jack came to deliver communion to Carol and I.
We are watching the World Series. It looks like the Cardinals will be down 2 games when they play in St. Louis on Tuesday night.

Time for bed.

Dad

Friday message

The day started with a power outage in Tabor, so no school at F.M. So Carol was home about 9:30. By then, I was feeling really good. It was that way until mid afternoon. I had an enjoyable 6 hours. We did manage to get me showered and cleaned up.

There was not much to do Friday night, I did make it all day without a vomit. That really helps your mental outlook. I did get one piece of work done for the bank, one to go.

CARDINALS WIN!!! CARDINALS WIN!!!

CARDINALS WIN!!! CARDINALS WIN!!! Now they face the Boston Red Sox, and I hope there are not any 14 inning games. Didn't get much done today. A mid afternoon upset stomach took all my energy. I was trying to drink the Ensure and I just can't get it to settle. I got out of bed at 7:00 p.m. and thing have been ok since then. Ice cream has been a good thing. Hope for a better day tomorrow.

Cardinals live for game seven

What a day!! I had trouble with breakfast and stayed in bed as long as possible. Dinner was okay, but I got sick again about 6:30. This all kind of wore me out. I did manage to eat a little pudding and ice cream later.

The Cardinals used a lot of their luck today. We will see how they do in game seven. It looks like they will play Boston. The world series should be good. It is going to be cold in Boston.

We're hoping for a better tomorrow.

Tuesday message

After a bad time at breakfast, I went back to bed. I got a call from Peggy Leet saying she was bringing Dick and Franie Shall from Denver, Co. to visit. So I got out of bed at 10:30 and got cleaned and shaved. We had a nice visit. Dick and Franie are in the area for a couple more days.

After lunch a former student, Fred Bryson, came to visit. He is a Methodist minister at Farragut.

Dinner and supper went okay. So if I can survive on Popcorn and ice cream for awhile that will be good. I did most of my exercises today. So all and all it turned out to be a good day.

Andy just called and he and the kids are coming up Saturday to spend the night and part of Sunday. I hope I feel ok tomorrow so I can do some bank work.

Dad

Easy Day

It is easy to describe this day. I slept. I guess that was to make up for yesterday. No severe trouble with my stomach today. Hopefully tomorrow I will feel like getting out of bed.

Visitor: My sister Kathy came to help Carol move the bed back upstairs and the dining room table back.

Boston surprises me by winning one more game but they were lucky again tonight. I guess all they have to do is get by nine innings.

Well, I will close and see what happens tomorrow.

Dad

Sunday note

This was an up and down day. I felt good for while then my stomach would decide to be upset.
Visitors: Dick Costello and Gary (Susan Costello's boyfriend). They helped Carol load a dresser we were taking to Nic.

Mark Fichter finished the soybeans yesterday.

Carol and I went to Omaha this afternoon to deliver the dresser to Nic. I stayed in Nic's basement and watched Sunday football. The Chief's blew a possible road win. The offense just needed a firstdown with 3 minutes to go to run the clock out. Jacksonville didn't have any timeouts left. But they didn't and that put the defense in a spot they couldn't handle.

I didn't feel like eating supper when we got home, had a little ice cream before bed so my pills would set better. Carol spent the evening putting her new day bed together. She is going to move our bed back upstairs. She will then have a dining room again.

The Cardinals lost so the series is tied 2-2.

Hope for a better day tomorrow.

Dad

Saturday note

I got all cleaned up today. A shower and clean hair were due. The rest of the day was spent watching football games. Iowa looked sharp, or Ohio State is really bad. I thought Kansas State wasn't any good this year. Iowa State got beat in Colorado by giving up 4 field goals - 44 yards, 52 yards, 54 yards & 60 yards. To add to that Iowa State couldn't make one from 24 yards.

The Cardinals lost the 1st game at Houston. I hope they can win at least one game at Houston. Finished up the day watching the NASCAR Race.

Bedtime ended a long day. It was the night I was going to try to sleep on my side part of the night. The reason is to take some pressure off my behind and toes. I hope to improve some more this week.

Dad

Day of sleeping

This was a day that I spent sleeping. I just couldn't get motivated to do anything.
Visitors: Ed Thompson and Jackie Nenneman from the bank. They updated me on the construction progress. I did look at the work that Marv brought to me. It was more detailed than I thought.
Danna and Kevin came down after supper. Kevin and I watched TV, and Danna and Mom worked on the computer.

Dad

A tale of two cities day.

A tale of two cities day. I still had effects of my upset stomach this morning. Breakfast didn't look good, so I ate 1/2 banana, took a couple of pills and went back to bed. The morning was spent in bed. At lunch I ate a little popcorn and a couple pills and went back to bed. About 3 o'clock things changed & I felt like getting up.

Visitors: Marv Penning - brought out some bank work to to, Tom Pollock - stopped in to visit between loads of soybeans, Ann Owens and Marilyn Van Horn - came to visit after work, and Alena Fichter stopped to visit while Mark moved the auger.

Tonight I watched Joey and Will and Grace while Carol went to see the seniors play a little bit of their last game. The rest of the night has been spent watching the St. Louis Cardinals. It is a tie game right now.

We are going to bed earlier tonight so I may not see the final of the game.

Go Cardinals

Not much happened today. The occupational therapist was here today. She comes one more time next week. We did some work with the big stretch bands. I am suppose to do the exercises the days they don't come. I usually do them in the afternoon.

Eating was a problem again today. I managed all meals but lost supper about 9 o'clock. I had chili for supper and that might have been pushing the limit.

The Cardinals are ahead 10-6 in the bottom of the 8th. I never saw so many broken bat hits in one game. They are off to a good start.

Dad

Got Out Of The House Today

I got out of the house today. Carol and I went to Glenwood to have Sue Stouder cut my hair. First hair cut since September 1st. There is a lot of crop out between here and Glenwood. mark hasn't finished the soybeans here. He moved to his dad's farm.

My visitors today were Carroll Duysen and Marve Penning. Carroll said his crop was really good.

The physical therapy will only come once this week and they were here today. We had a good workout.

I had stomach trouble at every meal today, but managed to keep it down. I eat grapes and nuts between meals and have no problems at all.

Finished Aunt Dorothy's bills for October. Aunt Dorothy is doing better, but still is in the hospital. She may have had a stroke but still has all her motor skills. She will return to the nursing home when she is stable.

Time for bed.

A Night With Family

Danna, Kevin and my sister Kathy came to watch Monday night football with us tonight. We talked about the Malvern football loss, Quest and the car race in Kansas City.
The nurse was here today and my blood pressure was 100 so that explains why I am not as cold as last week. We adjusted when I take certain medicines and it has helped. My wound on my ankle is still weeping, but is much better than it was. I also got my flue shot. My physical therapy only comes once a week now, so I have to do my exercises on my own. I usually do these in the afternoon.

Well, the St. Louis Cardinals get by one world series hurdle. Jeff Suppan didn't look overpowering, but he got the job done. The 70-10 Husker loss is causing the Big Red Fans to question their team. Some think Texas Tech ran the score up on them. I imagine there are some Big 12 coaches saying "See how it feels." One could be Iowa State.

Another good day

Sunday is off to a good start. Breakfast was ok for a change. I spent an hour writing up monthly bills.

The Chiefs don't play today so we can take it easy. The grandkids are outside looking at the pond and are going to Elaine's to see her baby kittens.

Cliff & Brenda came to visit this afternoon. Brenda's son Mike was hurt in Friday night's football game. Malvern lost and likely is out of the state playoffs. Aunt Dorothy is ill today, and they took her to Hamburg to check her out.

Nic & Kirk are coming this evening to bring some computer stuff for our computer. Danna is in Kansas City at the Nextel car race. It would be a nice day to sit outside and watch a car race.

Things looking up

Saturday was a good day for a change. I was able to sit up and watch the college games Saturday afternoon. Andy, Ali & Zach spent Saturday morning outside riding the lawnmower and cart. Andy pounded in some steel posts around the evergreens north of the house.

Saturday evening we listened to the Nebraska/Texas Tech game on the radio. Nebraska was outplayed in that one. Iowa State lost to Texas A & M.

All got to bed early for a good night's sleep.

Friday, October 08, 2004

Dad's first note

Danna and Kevin were down tonight and delivered an eggshell mattress, 2 pair of fleece pants for the cold air and a hand held shower head. All will work well. Hope I feel better the days you and the kids are visiting. I just can't get my stomach to settle. My legs hold me up ok, but they feel funny.

I have to get some money transferred for Aunt dorothy to pay her bills. It would be easier if I was going to work. So now I will have to use the phone many times. See you tomorrow night.

Love, Dad
